As a historically age-old temple, Lingyin Temple has accumulated a rich supply of precious cultural relics spanning a period of over one thousand years. At present, the Temple’s inventory consists of more than 200 pieces of cultural relics, which granted China the first-grade cultural relic status. These relics can be classified into three categories: calligraphic scrolls and paintings, porcelain and jade, and appliances of Dharma, wherein most are works of calligraphy and paintings. In addition, the Temple’s precious collection consists of articles left behind by ancient Buddhist masters, such as the seal used by Master Zhu Hong, the whisks, ruyi, and images of Buddha, which were once owned or worshiped by the abbots of the Temple.
