Of all the statues in Lingyin Temple, the foremost one,in terms of historical and cultural value, should definitely be the Bodhisattva Skanda in the Hall of Heavenly Kings. It is a precious relic from the Southern Song Dynasty that was carved out from a single chunk of camphor wood. The statue of Sakyamuni worshiped in the Hall of Great Hero is actually an epitome of a famous statue from the earlier Tang Dynasty. It is 24.8 meters in height, built out of twenty-four pieces of camphor wood. Appearing elegant and solemn, the statue is a classic artwork among the wood-carving sitting Buddhas. In the hall of Avatamsa, the statue of Buddha carved with nanmu wood from Myanmar are delicate,graceful and glowing. The statues of the Five Hundred Arhats located in the Hall of Arhats are all cast with bronze, each displaying its particular taste of vividness and vigorousness.They all deserved the titles of masterpieces of art of their days.
